According to official figures supplied by the federal government there are 45 thousand people in prison in Nigeria. More than two thirds of the prisoners are waiting years for his or her trial. Tens of thousands mostly young men, are detained without being sentenced. The old prison buildings are hotbeds for diseases such as tuberculosis.
